WÄRTSILÄ APPOINTS NEW HEAD FOR ITS TRANSAS BUSINESS

Wärtsilä has appointed Torsten Buessow as Director of its Transas business. He will report to Joonas Makkonen, VP of Voyage Solutions at Wärtsilä.

Buessow joins Wärtsilä from classification society, DNV GL where he worked for more than a decade, first as a VPof the company’s Maritime Software Business Unit, and then as a VP of Fleet Performance Management, its Maritime Digital Business Unit. Buessow earlier spent almost 10 years at Capgemini, a global management and IT consulting company, working mainly with logistics and transportation sector clients.

The company says that his expertise in maritime software, fleet operations, and post-merger integrations will be extremely valuable in delivering on Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine vision, and creating a truly modern, connected ecosystem for the future of maritime operations.

Buessow said: “I am looking forward to leading the professional and experienced Transas team. We will continue focusing on creating solutions to improve ship and port operations, and maritime academies by leveraging the latest technologies, including machine learning, Big Data analytics, and other innovations.”

Transas became a member of the growing family of Wärtsilä companies in May 2018. Transas holds a position as a leading provider of advanced technological solutions for the maritime industry, including fleet operations solutions, digital data and charts. The company is also a leader in professional simulation and training, and ship traffic control solutions.
