Incorporating Clean Shipping International

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik’s floating crane HHLA IV has hoisted the world’s largest propeller onto the 5,000TEU container ship Hyundai Supreme for transportation to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s shipyard in Busan, South Korea.

The 110t, 10.5m diameter propeller, manufactured by Germany’s Mecklenburger Metallguss (MMG), is the heaviest ship propeller to have ever been lifted by HHLA floating crane. Container gantry cranes are generally unable to lift such large heavy loads, and the 200t capacity  HHLA III and HHLA IV floating cranes are frequently used at the Port of Hamburg.

The propeller will be fitted to the first in a series of eleven 23,000TEU containerships under construction for MSC.
