Germany’s Containerships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, has accepted delivery of it second LNG-fuelled boxship Containerships Polar.

The 1,380TEU vessel, built by the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China, will operate alongside sistership Containerships Nord.

With its dimensions and its high ice class, both ships are suited for the navigational and climatic challenges of its operational area in Northern Europe and the Baltic. Moreover, the ships provide best-in-class container intake of 40ft and 45ft pallet-wide high cube containers.

At the end of June, the 170m long vessel’s first LNG bunkering will be carried out in Rotterdam where it will fuel an approximate of 200t of liquefied natural gas via ship-to-ship bunkering.

Containerships is due to take delivery of two more ships in the series, Containerships Arctic and Containerships Aurora, at the end of the
