Solent University’s Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering is set to open a new training facility next year. When in opens in spring 2019 it will be the UK’s largest marine simulation training centre, providing training to ships’ officers and crews.

With simulator systems supplied by Wärtsilä, designed to deliver higher levels of digitalisation and connectivity, the simulator complex will provide decision support, analysis, and training based on live data received from ships and ports.

Commenting on the new centre, Syamantak Bhattacharya, Dean of Solent University’s Warsash School of Maritime, Science and Engineering, said the new centre will be a “pillar of maritime education, training and research”.

The Wärtsilä scope – supplied under the Transas brand – o=includes state-of-the-art navigational bridges, engine room, liquid cargo handling, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), and crane operation simulators.

“We are very pleased to be able to call on the global experience and extensive industry know-how of Wärtsilä in making this project a success,” said Bhattacharya.
