Taiwanese owner Wan Hai Lines has confirmed an order of 20 container vessels with Japan Marine United and China’s Guangzhou Wenchong shipyard.

The Japanese shipyard has been contracted to build eight 3036TEU vessels, while the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard will build 12 smaller vessels of 2038TEU capacity. Wan Hai has the option to declare an additional four 3036TEU vessels within six months and four more 2038TEU vessels within three months. The first of the two new vessel types will be delivered towards the end October 2020 and early January 2021, respectively.

Currently, Wan Hai Lines operates a fleet of 72 owned vessels and 24 chartered vessels. This new shipbuilding contract is part of the company’s fleet renewal plan, aimed at ensuring it is able to maintain competitive and support continuous market development.
