Spanish shipbuilder Hijos de J. Barreras has launched a luxury cruise vessel destined for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection (RCYC), part of Marriot International. The 190m long vessel is the first vessel of this type built in the Bay of Vigo and the most expensive commercial vessel ever built in Spain.

Built to DNV GL class, the vessel design is the result of a close collaboration between the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Hijos de J. Barreras, and Swedish designer Tillberg Design.

With its 190 m of length and 23.40 of beam, it is can accommodate 298 passengers and 246 crew, providing the vessel with crew-to-passenger ratio 1:1.5.

The vessel’s hull shape has been optimised to achieve the highest guest comfort and low noise and vibration while improving sea keeping capabilities and manoeuvrability. Propulsion is based around a diesel/electric plant with four 3600kW main generators providing power to twin propellers to maintain a service speed of 16kts and a maximum speed of 17.8kts.

When delivered, the vessel will cruise a wide variety of destinations including the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, Canada and United States. Voyages will range from seven to ten nights. It will arrive to Vigo on its first European voyage on 29th of June 2020.
