Analyst S&P Global Platts has reported that the market for marine exhaust gas systems will peak at about 6000 installations, before tailing off after 2020.

S&P Global Platts Analytics reports that the market for scrubbers will recede after 2020, the year the International Maritime Organization's global sulphur cap is introduced.

Speaking at the Platts Mediterranean Bunker Fuel Conference in Athens. Chris Midgley, Global Director of Platts Analytics, forecast that 2200 vessels could have scrubbers installed by 2020, but this could rise to 3000 by the end of that year. Installation rate is likely to drop thereafter potentially peaking at 6000, Midgley said.
