Monaco-based Scorpio Bulkers has signed letters of intent with suppliers, engineering firms and dockyards for the delivery and installation of marine exhaust gas treatment systems to its owned and leased Kamsarmax and Ultramax bulkers.

Installations will take place between the 2Q 2019 and 3Q 2020, in projects valued between US$1.5 - $2.2 million per vessel.

Emanuele Lauro, Chairman & CEO, said: “We have long maintained that Scrubbers could be the right choice for compliance with the IMO 2020 regulations.  Having cautiously and patiently evaluated various risks associated with this disruptive change to our industry, we are now confident that substantial savings can be realized and that- with this investment in our vessels- our fleet will remain the most competitive in our marketplace."

Sorpio Bulkers operates a fleet of 57 vessels consisting of 19 wholly-owned or finance leased Kamsarmax vessels, 37 Ultramax types and one time chartered-in Ultramax. All of the company’s owned vessels have capacities greater than 60,000dwt.
