Reports from Pakistan say that 750 acres of land have been demarcated for the Gwadar Shipyard project by the Gwadar Development Authority.

When the Gwadar Shipyard is completed, it will be the largest in Pakistan. The Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production has urged the relevant authorities to expedite the yard's completion, as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The yard will additionally serve cargo ships that dock at Gwadar port. There is a source of unemployed skilled labour in the Balochistan region that the yard will be able to tap, though local senators are keen that equal employment opportunities are given to train workers who are currently unskilled.

Final approval for the project is expected at the upcoming policy board meeting, which will be chaired by Prime Minster Imran Khan. Once approved, the yard's backers will conduct feasibility studies and invite international tenders.
