Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has named a newbuild LNG Carrier ordered by Trans Pacific Shipping 8, a 50/50 Joint Venture between MOL and JERA, at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

JERA Chairman Toshihiro Sano named the vessel Sohshu Maru. The vessel is equipped with a DFDE (Dual Fuel Diesel Electric) propulsion system, designed to achieve heat efficiency, as a more environment-friendly, economically superior design compared to the normal Steam Turbine propulsion system. Sohshu Maru is 299.9m long, with a MOSS independent stretched spherical type tank system of 177,269m3 capacity.

The vessel will be managed by MOL and will transport LNG that JERA purchases from the Freeport LNG Project in the US and other suppliers.
