MARAN GAS PLACES LNGC ORDER WITH DSME DESPITE MERGER TALKS

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) continues to win ship orders despite talks of a merger with or acquisition by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Maran Gas Maritime placed an order with the Korean yard for a 174,000m3 LNG carrier which will be built at DSME’s Geoje Okpo Shipyard for delivery in the first half of 2021.

Since its first contract in 1994, the Angelicus Group has been DSME’s most frequent customer, with 102 vessels delivered to the MGM account. DSME says that despite the M&A issue, Daewoo Shipbuilding has been “endowed with unlimited confidence” in the shipbuilding industry.

An official said: "We will do our best for sales based on overwhelming technology, regardless of M&A.”

DSME has this year secured contracts for seven vessels worth about US$ 7.4 billion These include six large-sized crude carriers and one LNG carrier
