LNG TANKER ORDER FOR KOREAN YARD IN TAKEOVER BATTLE

Friday, February 15, 2019

The South Korean Yonhap news agency says that Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has received an order to build an LNG carrier for a Greek owner.

DSME - currently involved in a takeover bid by Hyundai - will build the 174,000m3 vessel for Maran Gas Maritime, the gas shipping unit of Angelicoussis Shipping Group, with delivery scheduled for the first half of 2021. The contract value is confidential.

DSME has obtained US$740 million worth of orders so far this year to build seven ships, including oil tankers, it said. Its 2019 new order target is US$8 billion, up 10% from last year's order target of $7.3 billion. For the whole of 2018, the shipyard clinched deals valued at $6.81 billion.
