China Merchant Industry Holding’s shiprepair facility on Weizhou Island has successfully completed the repair of its first foreign LNG Carriers.

Malaysian Air China’s LNG Carrier Sapphire Princess berthed at No. 2 dock of the Merchants Industrial Zhangzhou Island Repair Base, becoming the first foreign LNG ship to be repaired at the Weizhou Island Base following the restoration of the LNG ships Lucia Ambition and The Spoonbill in 2017.

Work was also carried out to the 134,833m3 capacity Puteri Nilam Satu, operated by Malaysia’s Eaglestar Shipmangement. This included the outboard repair of 12 cryogenic pumps and cryogenic safety valves, cargo compressors and the overhaul boilers and fuel systems. The yard also carried out work on boiler feed water pumps and steam turbines.

CMIH says the success of the repairs mark the official entry of the Weizhou Island base into the international shiprepair market for LNG Carriers.
