HYUNDAI MIPO TO BUILD METHANOL-FUELLED TANKER FOR NYK

Friday, January 4, 2019

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has secured a contract to build a 49,000dwt methanol-fuelled chemical carrier for NYK Group. In late December, NYK secured ¥2 billion “green loan” from the Taiyo Life Insurance Company to build its first methanol-fuelled tanker. Using methanol as a marine fuel helps meet the International Maritime Organization’s impending regulations to cap sulphur content. Methanol is a clean-burning fuel that produces less nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM), enabling more environment-friendly operation.
