Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has secured US$600 million in order for five vessels including LNG carriers.

The most recent order is for a 174,000m3 LNG carrier for Greek shipping interests. This followed orders for an LNG carrier from Japan, one LPG carrier from domestic shipping companies, and two crude oil carriers from Greek shipping companies.

The LNG carriers will be equipped with HHI’s air lubrication system Hi-ALS,  an energy saving device that improves the operating efficiency by reducing the frictional resistance by spraying air on the lower part of the hull. HHI says it can reduce fuel consumption by 8.0%.

Hyundai Heavy Industries said: "Due to the recent tightening of environmental regulations, orders for LNG carriers are continuing to recover," he added. "We expect to receive additional orders for large-scale LNG carriers this year."
