HARD TO SEE NEW SUPERYACHT CONCEPT ON THE WATER

Friday, October 12, 2018  (Comments: 1)

Fincantieri Yachts and Van Geest design have teamed up to develop an “invisible” superyacht concept.

Dubbed Mirage, the 106m motor yacht designed by Pieter Van Geest and Tracey Canavaggio uses light refraction to create an illusion of invisibility. The use of glass/mirror cladding results in the six-decked, 4200dwt yacht effectively blending in with the surrounding seascape. Anyone looking to spot the yacht from a distance of 50m would be hard pushed to see it.

The design features a closed transom and would be fitted out with a twin 3440kW engines to provide a top speed of 19 knots.

Aside from the doubt about the advantages of such feature for the perspective owner, isn't it an increased risk of collision in a world where even a 300 m container carrier at anchor goes undetected, although prominently visible.
