GONDAN LAUCHES WORLD'S LARGEST HYBRID TUG

Sunday, October 28, 2018

The Gondan Shipyard in Figueras, Spain has launched Vilja, the most powerful ice-breaking escort tug of its size in the world with hybrid/electrical propulsion.

The  vessel is one of the builder’s first to be designed using Cadmatic Marine Software, following  Gondan purchase of the software in May 2017. Since then, the number of Cadmatic Marine Design licenses at the company has increased significantly. The launch of the icebreaking escort tug is the first project that was completely done by Gondan with the software.

Gondan Shipbuilders used the software for the detail and production design of the tug. The 36m tug is a RAL TundRA 3600-H class icebreaking design fully customised for the Swedish Port of Luleå’s operational requirements. The vessel is designed to perform icebreaking – it is capable of breaking 1m thick ice at a speed of up to 3 knots, ice management, escorting, ship-assists, coastal towing, firefighting and navigation aid service duties.
