FUJAIRAH BECOMES LATEST PORT TO RESTRICT SCRUBBER USE

Saturday, January 26, 2019

The Port of Fujairah, in the UAE, has issued the following Notice to Mariners, signed by Harbour Master Capt Tamet Masoud.

"Please be advised that Port of Fujairah has decided to ban the use of open-loop scrubbers in its waters. Ships will have to use compliant fuel once the IMO 2020 sulphur cap comes into force."
Fujairah is an important bunkering hub. We understand that despite the scrubber restrictions, HFO of more than 0.5% sulphur content will continue to be made available because vessels will still be able to use non-compliant fuel in conjunction with scrubbers outside the port limits.
