The first of a new type of mid-size 45000m3 LNG Carriers is nearing completion at China Merchants Heavy Industry for Saga LNG.

Incorporating the patented LNT A-BOX LNG tank system developed by LNG New Technologies, the  new type A tank faciltates cost effective design and easy fabrication enabling new yards to enter the LNG sector. The tank configuration gives excellent volume utilisation and provides an efficient hull form, ensuring an almost closed flat deck area.

The vessel has a deadweight at design draught of 24 500t and is designed for high cargo capacity and low fuel consumption with a four stroke dual fuel engine rated at 8250 kW to offer service speeds of  16.9 knots

The vessel concept is named LNT 45 and was developed by Swedish naval architect FKAB together with LNT New Technologies. FKAB has been involved both in the project to design the LNG tanks and the Basic Design of the vessel. Through FKAB’s offices in Sweden and China, FKAB has delivered both Basic Design & Extended Basic Design to the shipyard.

This is the first vessel of its kind and will soon be ready for sea trial and delivery, says FKAB

The Contract Design has been performed by LNG New Technology and the project has been evaluated by FKAB Marine Design. FKAB is also performing an extended Basic Design package including lines. The design is based on the LNT A-Box containment system, which is patented. The tank configuration gives an excellent volume utilization and allows providing an efficient hull.
