COCHIN ESTABLISHING SHIP REPAIR ECOSYSTEM

Wednesday, May 8, 2019  (Comments: 1)

Cochin Shipyard (CSL) is planning to set up a Maritime Park as part of its ISRF facility at Willingdon Island, with the aim to develop a ship repair ecosystem supporting the maritime service sector in India.

CSL aims to establish an international repair facility for the shipping and offshore industries, attracting both commercial and defence customers, along the lines of the established facilities in Singapore and the Middle East. To this end, it is looking for partners with relevant experience to invest in the project.

The park will comprise 23 units of 900 ft2 to 1150 ft2, with common facilities, behind a shared front office building.

Great news. Right direction for shipyard to take the lead in expanding marine repair activities in the region. Nostalgic of my association with the yard from 1976 to 1980 as Lloyd’s Surveyor looking after 1st new building there.
