CHINESE YARD INTEGRATION CONTINUES

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Two of the former Sinotrans shipyards are to be taken over by Hong Kong-based China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH).

The Nanjing Jinling and Wuhu Jiangdong Shipyards will now come under the control of CMIH. The two other major Sinotrans yards, Qingshan Shipyard and Yichang Shipyard, are not currently active, Qingshan shipyard having delivered its last ship in 2018. Jinling's current order book comprises 39 vessels, while Jiangdong has four ships on order.

The takeover is part of the Chinese national shipbuilding industry’s continuing integration policy, which is grouping various shipbuilding and repair assets under the China Merchants group. h

CMIH is said to be one of China's fastest-growing offshore equipment builder and ship repair organisations, with three production facilities (pictured): Haimen in Jiangsu, Mazhou Island in Shenzhen and Yiu Lian in Hong Kong.
