Damen Shipyards Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Askeri Fabrika ve Tersane İşletme AŞ of Turkey (ASFAT) for collaboration in the production of marine platforms.

The MoU signing took place at the 14th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) taking place in Istanbul. Present at the signing ceremony were ASFAT Deputy General Manager Bulent Safak and General Manager Esad Akgün. Attending for Damen were COO Jan-Wim Dekker and Sales Manager Boran Bekbulat.

AFSAT was established in 2018 to utilise the capabilities of the 27 military factories and three naval shipyards within the body of Turkey’s Ministry of Defense. The fully government-owned organisation offers innovative solutions to friendly and allied nations, spanning design, manufacture, maintenance, sustainment and training areas with solution partner approach based on public-private sector synergies.

Speaking on the occasion of the signing, Bekbulat said: “There is a natural synergy to be found between Damen and ASFAT. Both parties are seeking to provide innovative answers to the requirements of clients around the world. By combining our strengths in this manner we will be able to ensure the optimisation of processes and develop a wider reach of our services, all the better for serving the needs of our customers and maximising capabilities.”
