As an independent, non-profit organisation, IME(I) is a learned, professional and membership body committed to the promotion, development and advancement of education and research in the field of Marine Engineering and upholding the status, standards and competence of marine professionals.

Today, the IME (I), a registered charity, has a 10,000-plus membership base with 8 branches at Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, New Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Goa, and 6 chapters at Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Patna, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Chandigarh.

What IME (I) does?

  • Offers a range of memberships for those seeking professional recognition
  • Conducts preparatory courses for Certificate of Competency Examinations
  • Organises monthly technical meetings and lectures at our Branches and Head Office
  • Organises and facilitates participation in events, conferences and international seminars such as INMARCO, World Shipping Forum, and GLOMARS
  • Publishes the Marine Engineers Review, a monthly technical journal, and books related to Marine Engineering
  • Sponsors research activities of our members & awards scholarships to student members
  • Provides Maritime Consultancy Services
  • Partners with the Indian Flag State Administration to conduct NCV examinations, operates Facilitation Centres for the issue of Watch keeping Certificates, Tanker Endorsements etc
